Warner Program in Health Professions Education
Advanced Certificate in Education for Health Professionals (HP2)
This 12-credit program includes the three core courses plus a customizable elective. Can be used as a stepping stone toward the master's degree or a doctoral program.
MS in Health Professions Education (HP1)
This master's program can be completed with a minimum of 30 credits of coursework, some of which can be transferred from previous graduate level coursework in related fields. With the exception of the three required HPE core courses (which are only offered online), students can choose to complete the rest of the coursework face-to-face or online.
M.S. in Health Professions Education (combined option) (HP4)
This combined program will allow you to pursue the basic master’s program concurrently with at least one of the advanced certificates listed below – thus leading to multiple credentials for only a few additional credits. The length of the combined program and its total number of credits will depend on the chosen advanced certificate(s) and other optional enhancements. This option may be especially desirable for international students interested in additional specializations and willing to devote 4-5 semesters to their master’s program.
Opportunities for Additional Specializations
- Advanced Certificate in Online Teaching (as little as 3 extra credits including some online courses): Prepares you to leverage online learning in a variety of instructional contexts (from university courses to professional development and public dissemination).
- Advanced Certificate in Program Evaluation (as little as 3 extra credits): Strengthens your research and skills in planning and conducting evaluations of existing programs.

Our Approach
It's All About Influencing the Future of Healthcare.
We build on the complementary expertise of our schools of education, nursing, medicine and dentistry, and the diverse experiences of our students, to deliver a truly interprofessional program.

- Educating future healthcare professionals to be the workforce of the future.
- Applying the science of learning to the challenges of educating the interprofessional healthcare teams of the future.
- Becoming educational leaders in academic medicine, nursing, and other health-related disciplines.
- Impacting the future of healthcare delivery through innovation and discovery, including tele-health.
The three HPE core courses that constitute the backbone of all our health professions education programs are co-taught by faculty members from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, School of Nursing, and the Warner School of Education, and are designed to be taken by students as an interprofessional cohort over the course of one year. The ability for various healthcare disciplines to not only teach, but also to learn together, bringing with it various clinical perspectives, builds mutual respect and admiration, while helping to put into practice what has become a critical component of the integrated healthcare model.
Students enrolled in any of our HPE programs will enjoy technology-rich instruction designed to not only create the best learning experience for their students, but also to help their students understand the benefits of technology – online, simulations, video, webinars, and more – as a way of enhancing the learning experiences for their prospective students, patients, clients, and more.
