Teacher, K-12 Leadership, and School Counselor Certification

New York State certification is required for students who anticipate working in public schools in a teaching, school counseling, building or district leadership position.

TEACH

Confirmation

Degree conferral letter for applicants for programs leading to New York State certification or licensure:
Students who have completed all program requirements and who need documentation before the degree/certificate becomes official can request a confirmation letter by completing the degree/certificate confirmation letter request. The Registrar will send it to the email address provided, unless otherwise indicated.

Certification Outside of New York State

New York State has high standards for the preparation, quality, and licensure/certification of its professional educators. All academic programs at the University of Rochester’s Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development that lead to New York State licensure/certification are designed carefully and comprehensively to fully meet or exceed state requirements. Our nationally accredited programs in Teacher Preparation, School Counseling, and K-12 School and District Leadership are registered accordingly with the New York State Education Department to qualify professionals for licensure/certification in those fields, in service of the public good and in accordance with the Warner School’s institutional mission. Additionally, successful completion of the Warner School’s graduate programs commonly satisfies or exceeds educational requirements associated with equivalent licensure/certification areas in other states.

Mental Health Licensure

Students completing a program in community mental health are eligible to receive a limited permit to practice under supervision at a clinical site acceptable to the New York State Office of Professions.

Students enrolled in community mental health programs will need to complete the Child Abuse Identification and Reporting Workshop.

Mental health counselors who complete our licensure program can apply for New York State mental health licensure.

Behavior Analyst Licensure

Students enrolled in Applied Behavior Analysis programs intending to obtain state licensure will need to complete the Child Abuse Identification and Reporting Workshop.

Behavior analysts who complete our licensure program can apply for New York State behavior analyst licensure.

Workshops

Workshops are available for students registered in New York State programs requiring workshop completion: Child Abuse ID and Reporting, Safe Schools Against Violence, Dignity for All Students Act.
