Professional Licensure Disclosure for Teaching Outside of New York State

As of July 1, 2024, federal regulation 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) requires each institution of higher education to:

…ensure that the program meets all licensure requirements in the State(s) in which the institution is located… [and] disclose to… student[s] whether it has made a determination regarding whether the program meets licensure/certification requirements in [other US states and territories].

Educator licensure/certification standards are determined by states, so it is common for states to have different requirements. If you aim to complete your professional education at the Warner School and then practice your chosen profession in another state, this disclosure provides you with resources and directions for checking the congruence of your graduate program with other states’ requirements.

The Warner School cannot verify an individual’s capacity to meet state licensure/certification requirements that are unrelated to its educational programs. Such determinations are made on individual bases by state licensure/certification boards using evaluation criteria and rules established by those boards. Consequently, this disclosure offers no assurance that any particular state licensing/certificating body will approve or deny your application, nor does it consider variations or changes in other states’ laws, rules, or regulations over time that may affect applicants’ abilities to seek licensure/certification in those states.

We strongly encourage prospective and enrolled students who are considering professional practice outside of New York State: (1) to discuss any prospects or plans to pursue licensure/certification in other states with the Warner School’s Certification Officer and their Academic Program Advisor; and (2) to contact their chosen states’ licensure/certification bodies using the links provided below to review all requirements for their areas of specialization in those states. It is incumbent on candidates pursuing licensure/certification outside of New York State to seek guidance from, fulfill requirements set by, and complete appropriate application processes used by other states’ licensure/certification offices. Candidates should pay special attention to resources specifically related to licensure/certification pathways for applicants who have completed out-of-state educational programs and/or obtained out-of-state licensure/certification, if applicable.

The Warner School has designed professional programs (MS, CAS) in Teacher Preparation that, if successfully completed, fully meet licensure/certification requirements in the following:

The Warner School has not found that its professional programs (MS, CAS) in Teacher Preparation are insufficient to meet licensure/certification requirements in other US states and territories. Nonetheless, through good faith efforts, the Warner School cannot determine whether its curricula for professional programs leading to New York State licensure/certification, if successfully completed, fully satisfy licensure/certification requirements in the following:
