Student Services

Student Services (and the Warner School, in general), in keeping with FERPA regulations, is extremely careful in handling sensitive information regarding students.

  • REQUESTS FOR CONTACT INFORMATION: Student Services will not provide home or cell phone numbers or personal e-mail addresses to anyone but Warner School employees over the phone; we will contact the student or faculty member in question and pass on your phone number, or we will provide you with the student’s Warner e-mail address. Should you wish to request contact information, we suggest e-mailing the Warner School Registrar from the e-mail account you have on file with Warner School, so we can verify your identity.
  • EXCEPTIONS: Instructors sometimes do share contact information with other students; if you do not wish to have your contact information shared in this manner, it is your responsibility to notify your instructor(s) of this before class starts.
  • DESIGNATING RECORDS AS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL: Should you wish to have your record designated as confidential in the UR database (this means that you will have to give permission for the release of any personal information), you should contact the Warner School Registrar or complete and submit the Personal Information Release Form to the Warner School Registrar.

  • If you require an Enrollment Verification for employment, health insurance, Social Services, unemployment or other purposes, you should contact the Warner School Registrar; the courtesy of a minimum of 24-hour notice is appreciated.

  • Should you find something that a fellow student has left behind, please return it to the Warner School Registrar as soon as possible; if the Registrar is not available, you can give the item to someone in the Warner IT Department or one of the Support Staff.
  • Should you lose something, you may contact the Warner School Registrar first.
    • A word of advice: while we as educators and counselors believe we all hold ourselves to a higher standard, not all who utilize our facilities hold to the same ethics; very seldom are thumb drives, cell phones and other technology devices recovered when left in one of the classrooms. So, please remember to take all valuables with you when you leave a classroom.

  • After you’ve registered for classes, you will have a mail folder in the mail room on the 1st floor of Dewey (1-217)
    • If you do not have a folder or your name on the folder is misspelled, etc., please contact the Student Services Assistant for help.

    • 4th Floor
Enter Dewey from the front door off the Eastman Quadrangle (“The Quad”).  Take stairs (one set down hallway to left of the Reception Desk and the other down the hallway to right of Reception Desk) or elevator (to left) to the fourth floor.
    • Dewey 4-162: on right just outside elevator or turn right if using stairs.
    • Dewey 4-160K & 160M:  watch signs—second door on right just outside elevator, go through door, then follow hallway “jog” right, then left; 160K will be on left around corner, and 160M will be on right.
    • Dewey 4-131:  turn left outside elevator or stairs, go past break in hallway toward drinking fountain; door will be on left.
    • 2nd Floor
If entering Warner from the Quad, you are on the second floor.  In addition to classrooms, Dewey Hall’s second floor houses Admissions, Communications, ScienceStart! (in the Simon School wing, behind the Reception area), the Dean’s Office, Student Services, and the Finance Offices.
    • Dewey 2-162: turn left at the Reception Desk; this classroom is located just to the left of the elevator.
    • Dewey 2-110C:  turn right at the Reception Desk; this classroom is located at the west end of the second floor (turn left at the end of the hallway)
    • Dewey 2-110D:  turn right at the Reception Desk; this classroom is located at the west end of the second floor (classroom is at end of the hallway)
    • Dewey 2110E:  turn right at the Reception Desk; this classroom is located at the west end of the second floor (classroom is at end of the hallway)
    • 1st Floor
The first floor, where most classrooms are located, also houses faculty offices, Information Technology, the Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform, and the Faculty/Student Lounge (1-217; the “Mail Center” where student mail folders are located).
If entering from the tunnels (turn right) or from the Florescue von Manstein Plaza (turn left inside the door, progress through handicapped entrance, through a second set of doors and up the hallway), you are on the first floor.  If entering from The Quad ,take stairs (one set down hallway to left or other to right of Reception Desk) or elevator (to left) to the first floor.
Orient yourself by the large column next to the vending machines.  Dewey’s entrance is just past the vending area.
Dewey 1-211C:  directly across from the vending machines.
Once you have entered the Warner School on the first floor, you will find the following classrooms through the door on your immediate left:
    • Dewey 1-154 (“The Technology Classroom” or “The Tech Room”—this classroom is the first classroom on your left).
    • Dewey 1-160A: this classroom is the next on the left past the Technology Classroom.
    • Dewey 1-160B: this classroom is located to the left around the corner at the end of this hall.
To find the following classrooms, enter the Warner School on the first floor (as described above), continue down the hall, through the double doors.  Where the hall divides, take the left fork.  (While both rooms have entrances off the right fork, as well, the entrance on the right to 1-301 is normally locked.)
    • Dewey 1-301: this is the first classroom on your right.
    • Dewey 1-305: this is the next classroom as you move south.
    • Basement
To access the basement level, enter Warner School on the first floor, continue down the hallway, through the double doors to where the hall divides.  Take the right fork and walk south all the way to the end.  Then either take the elevator directly ahead of you or go through the door to your left and down the stairs to the basement.
    • Dewey B-315:  turn right out of elevator, then left and left again; from stairs turn left and left again; the room will down the hallway a few doors on your left.
Alternately, if you are not already in Dewey for a class, you can enter the building through the back entrance and take the stairs down to the basement.
Be aware if you exit through this rear door of Dewey, you will not be able to re-enter the first floor classrooms directly; you will have to take the stairs to the basement and then take the elevator or other stairs back up to the 1st floor.
  • MAPS

  • Every student registered for classes is entitled to a Student ID Card and will need one to:
    • Utilize the Rush Rhees Library
    • Transact business at the Bursar’s Office
    • Receive student discounts at various places on and off campus
    • Access gym facilities, if you are eligible to use them
  • To get your Student ID Card, you must bring some form of picture ID with you (driver’s license, passport, etc.) and go to the Susan B. Anthony Complex behind the Library parking lot; signs inside main door will direct you to the ID Office. For hours of operation, you should call ahead: 585.275.3975.
    • Should you lose your card, you can have a duplicate card made for a small fee; report the loss immediately to the ID Office.

The University currently uses a number of different ID numbers and passwords/PINs to access various UR systems, including Online Registration, Student Access and Blackboard. This is likely the source of the most confusion for new and returning students, alike. To help you make your way through this maze, here are the different numbers and their uses:

    • This is a unique ID number which usually consists of your first initial and all or part of your last name; it is used to access Blackboard (in most instances), all online Bursar’s Office forms, and to register online.
    • The NetID password is something you create to use in conjunction with the NetID.
      • You must first have your URID (see below) in order to get your NetID and set up your password; should you not have received a URID yet (you should have gotten this number in an e-mail from the Warner Registrar after you were admitted or registered), contact the Warner School Registrar or Student Services Assistant.
      • You should next visit the NetID website to get your NetID and set up your password and security questions. ∗ If you are a UR employee or former student, you will already have a NetID (employees use this to access the HRMS system) and should not create a new one but use the existing ID. You should contact Warner’s Blackboard Coordinator if you encounter problems.
      • If you forget your password and can’t recall the answer to your security question, you will be required to stop in the UIT (University Information Technology) Office on the ground floor at the back of the Rush Rhees Library to reset your password. So….we advise you to write it down.
  • PIN for Financial Aid
    • This is a PIN exclusively used for Financial Aid and in conjunction with your URID; it is available only through the FAOnline system.
      • Soon after you were admitted, you should have received an e-mail from the Financial Aid Office asking you to set up your account for financial aid, and in that e-mail, it should have given you the option of creating a PIN. If you did not, click on the hyperlink above and in the LOG IN box at the very bottom, click on “First Time User.” You’ll enter your URID, and it will let you create an account and a PIN.
  • URID (Student ID or UID)
    • All these terms (URID, Student ID or UID [unique ID]) refer to the eight- (8-) digit unique ID number you have that identifies you in the UR database where registration occurs (and in HRMS, for UR employees); this number replaces your Social Security Number for all applications except financial aid.
    • As soon as you are accepted to the Warner School, the system will assign you a URID.
      • The Warner School Registrar will provide you with this number in an e-mail as soon as you are either admitted or registered.
      • You should indicate this number on any paper transactions you exchange with the Bursar’s Office.
      • Should you forget this number, you can e-mail the Warner School Registrar or Student Services Assistant, or, if you recall your NetID and password, you can enter that on the UR Registrar’s UID/PIN Request web form.
