Thank you for your interest in the Counseling & Human Development programs at the University of Rochester’s Warner School.
Whether you’re beginning your counseling career, pursuing research that promotes healthy human development, advancing your professional practice, or becoming a counselor educator, you’ll find a supportive community committed to helping you grow as a professional and a leader. Working closely with faculty, our students build new skills – both interpersonal and research-focused – they learn to innovate and collaborate in order to advance their careers, and they focus on how to improve their communities. In addition, students acquire the ability to help others grow and learn career-relevant knowledge and skills through teaching assistantships, internships, lab meetings, and community-embedded experiences. The Warner School is committed to advancing our understanding of the factors that shape health and well-being, with the goals of better connecting people with the resources and support they need to thrive.

Counseling & Human Development Options
Prepare counselors, counselor educators, scholars and practitioners to promote individual wellbeing and success while creating environments that foster healthy human development.
Key Program Features
- Supportive Environment: Engage with full-time faculty and peers at the master’s and doctoral levels, both inside and outside the classroom. Work with a dedicated faculty advisor to tailor the program to suit your academic and career goals.
- Customizable: Includes a mix of rigorous core/specialization courses and elective courses to enable you to tailor the program to your career interests and needs. You can also add an Advanced Certificate for as little as three additional credits.
- Flexible: Program can be completed on a full-time ot part-time basis. You can also start during any semester and go at your own pace.
- Exciting Research Opportunities: Faculty at Warner and across campus are always working on interesting projects that can provide opportunities for research apprenticeships and assistantships.
- Community Engagement Opportunities: Through partnerships with government agencies, community organizations for children, youth, adults, seniors, and families, and health care providers, students can leverage the strengths, resources, and networks to transform contexts and improve the lives of their communities.
- Opportunities for Additional Specializations: In addition to the Advanced Certificates, you can choose courses from other departments to learn more about specific age groups and school, family, clinical, and higher education contexts.

After researching schools within the area that offer graduate programs in mental health counseling, I found that the Warner School was one of them. As an alum of the Class of 2012 with a bachelor’s from the University’s School of Arts & Sciences, I thought it would be nice to continue my education at my alma mater.
