Career-oriented services support students

The best time to invest in building your job search strategy is now. And the ways you can do that are easy, simple and often rewarding. Here are some suggestions for getting started:
  1. Pay attention to the people you interact with at Warner, especially those who work in roles or fields that interest you. What do they do at work? What kinds of projects, daily interactions, collegial relationships, research and activities engage them? Consider asking them questions and learning about their work.
  2. Grow your circle to grow your options. Attend professional gatherings, conferences and workshops where current and potential colleagues congregate. Get to know some of them more personally. Cultivate friendships. Explore collaborations and shared interests. You can expand your circle by joining LinkedIn networking groups, like the Warner School Alumni Group and the UR Alumni Group.
  3. Scan job openings in your field. Knowing “what’s out there” at any given point influences and informs your career/job and prospective employer choices. Also, in September, you will be automatically registered for Handshake, a state-of-the art job posting and employer connection platform that will send relevant job postings and employer events directly to your phone or tablet.
  4. Connect with Warner’s dedicated career services professional, Harriette Royer. Her personal consultations with you cover a full range of services, such as, but not limited to, resume/CV/cover letter development, networking, interviewing and coaching for success.
