Biography

Hairong directs the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program designed for International students and teaches writing and TESOL classes. She is a former college English lecturer and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels, both face to face and online. She has also worked at Warner Writing Support Services for more than three years, first as a writing consultant, and eventually taking on the role of coordinator.

Her research interests include second language acquisition, teacher education, and academic writing. She has worked on several research projects funded by U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Spencer Foundation. She worked on Project CELLS, designing curriculum for new immigrant and refugee students to transition into U.S. educational systems. She has done social network analysis (SNA), studying how academic networking, especially mentoring networks, affects underrepresented scholars’ academic productivity.
