Warner School offers guaranteed teaching scholarships

New Students Enrolling in Select Teaching Programs Will Receive 50 Percent Tuition Support
 

The University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education announces a new scholarship program designed to make teacher education programs more affordable and attract the best and brightest to the teaching profession and Warner’s innovative teacher education programs.  New students starting master’s programs leading to New York State teaching certification are guaranteed a minimum 50 percent tuition scholarship, provided they commit to teach in a U.S. school for a minimum of two years after graduation.
 
Funded by a legacy gift from the late Byron Williams, former Earl B. Taylor Professor at the Warner School, the new Byron Williams Teacher Scholarships will be available to all 2016 teacher applicants to a master’s program preparing for New York State certification.  Applicants are encouraged to apply by the March 15, 2016 deadline to begin graduate study this summer.
 
“We believe that good teaching is at the heart of great schools, and we want to attract passionate, talented teacher candidates to the Warner School,” said Warner School Dean Raffaella Borasi. “The rollout of the Byron Williams Scholarships is an extension of our commitment to K-12 schools and the teaching profession. To that end, we are pleased to offer these new scholarships to help support individuals with the potential and the desire to become exceptional educators in our nation’s schools.” 
 
In addition to the 50 percent tuition scholarships, a few grant-funded merit scholarships covering 100 percent of tuition costs are available in math, science, TESOL, or inclusion with significant disabilities. Additionally, full-tuition Fifth Year in Teaching Scholarships will be awarded to qualified University of Rochester undergraduates committed to teaching in urban areas.
