Provides students with the foundations necessary to understand, evaluate, and create effective data visualization, which is a form of visual communication that involves the design of visual representations of data to convey meaning. Data visualization is used to communicate information clearly and efficiently using charts, graphs, plots, images and infographics. Course readings, in-class discussions, and practice in the critique and design of visualizations help students to learn principles of graphical perception and visual encoding of quantitative information that they can apply to communicate data to audiences in research and evaluation contexts.
