McArdle Ramerman, Warner Center to Offer First Joint Executive Coaching Development Program in Upstate New York


A new partnership between Rochester’s premier executive leadership development firm, McArdle Ramerman, Inc., and the University of Rochester Warner Center (URWC) for professional development and organizational change, will offer a suite of leadership development programs.

We are creating innovative programs in leadership and organizational development that combine cutting-edge research with state-of-the-art practice.”

Leadership and Executive Coach Development Program
The partnership has announced their first joint effort, the Leadership and Executive Coach Development Program, to begin in September 2008. The program is aimed at managers and leaders who want to add coaching to their leadership tool kit and people who want to increase their coaching abilities or become professional leadership and executive coaches either within an organization or in an external role.

The courses, “Leadership Coaching” and “Executive Coaching,” are the first and only coaching courses in New York State offered through a partnership between a university and the business community.

McArdle Ramerman Co-CEO Jim Ramerman and Dr. Frederick Jefferson, professor emeritus of the University of Rochester, are coordinating the course curriculum.

“We designed the curriculum for this new program to provide a solid foundation in leadership coaching,” Ramerman said. “It will include substantial coaching practice, and introduce students to executives who have sought the services of a coach.

“At the same time, we developed a learning community that takes advantage of the valuable skills and experiences the students bring to the table,” Ramerman said.

Jefferson called the new program “a perfect learning opportunity for HR leadership staff, people in management and leadership positions in all sectors—education, business, government, and not-for-profits as well as those looking to become independent coaches.” Faculty members have experience as executive-level practitioners, master-certified coaches, higher education professors and CEOs.

Upon completion of the courses, coaches will:

  • Have access to the necessary tools and instruments to support their work.
  • Become part of a well-respected coaching community.
  • Have completed the education requirement for certification through the International Coaching Federation.

Course details
The Leadership Coaching course begins September 2008, and is aimed at both the emerging and experienced professional coach. It focuses on understanding leadership roles and effective coaching approaches that help drive performance. Students will learn and develop practices aligned with ICF requirements, while acquiring the tools to sharpen self-knowledge, confidence and expertise. The program will be taught in three five-day in-class sessions and individual coaching experiences. Program fee of $11,500 covers tuition and reading materials.

The Executive Coaching course begins September 2009, and builds on the core knowledge and practices of leadership coaching. The emphasis of this advanced course is on the context and results-orientation of the senior executive. Students will learn about system theories and organizational culture, while developing a deeper and more sophisticated set of coaching skills and technologies. The program will be taught in two four-day in-class sessions and individual coaching experiences. To participate in the Executive Coaching Course students must first complete the MRI/URWC Leadership Coaching Course or its equivalent. Program fee of $7,500 covers tuition and reading materials.
