Information Session: Genesee Valley Writing Project 2011 Summer Institute

Sunday, January 23, 2011
1 to 3 p.m.
Interfaith Chapel, University of Rochester's River Campus

Meet participants from previous Genesee Valley Writing Project Summer Institutes, hear more about the program details, see demonstration lessons, and experience the camaraderie. Refreshments will be served. To RSVP or for more information, contact (585) 275-0990 or visit www.rochester.edu/warner/gvwp

What should a teacher expect to gain from the Summer Institute?

· A sense of what it feels to be a poet, an essayist, a fiction writer, or a researcher. With support from a peer writing group, teachers will deepen their understanding of the processes, struggles, and rewards of writing.

· A collection of practical lessons on writing. Teachers create, present, and learn lessons that are both inspirational and practical.

· The camaraderie of a group of like-minded professionals. Participating teachers, who teach at all grade levels and in many disciplines, come from throughout and beyond Monroe County.

A message from Dr. Joanne Larson, director of the Genesee Valley Writing Project:

To teachers in all subject areas and all grade levels, I couldn’t be more pleased to invite you to learn about the Genesee Valley Writing Project. We are a community of committed teachers who understand and, above all, value the work you do everyday. Our Writing Project site offers you a welcoming space to explore writing as both a creative activity and an invaluable instructional tool.
