Youth-full Productions: Meet the Authors, Hear Their Stories

Monday, April 12, 2010
5:30 to 7 p.m.
Rush Rhees Library, Welles-Brown Room
University of Rochester, River Campus

The Warner School of Education will host a “meet the authors” and book-signing celebratory event for the newly released book Youth-full Productions: Cultural Practices and Constructions of Content and Social Spaces (Peter Lang Publishing). Warner School faculty member Nancy Ares, who also edited the book, and fourteen doctoral students moved their compilation of research from an advanced doctoral seminar, titled “Cultural Practices as Resources for Learning and Development,” taught by Ares in 2008, to publication. To help the move from seminar to book-quality work, Joanne Larson, also a Warner faculty member, and senior scholars from across the country collaborated to co-author chapters.

The event will open with a panel discussion that brings together these distinguished writers to share the rich resources youth of color, and those living in poverty, have developed through their everyday lives and bring to the classroom. The event will conclude with chapter table discussions as they highlight their research and talk about their experiences as authors.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. A sign language interpreter will be provided for the discussion. For more information about the event, please contact Nancy Ares at (585) 273-5957 or nares@warner.rochester.edu.
