Warner Wednesday Talk: Exploring a Sustained Implementation of an Ambitious Mathematics Program (Jeffrey Choppin)

Wednesday, March 2, 2022
12 to 1 p.m.
Presented remotely via Zoom

Presenters: Jeffrey Choppin

Jeff ChoppinIn this lunch talk, Dr. Choppin will describe a project that explores the sustained implementation of an ambitious mathematics program at the East EPO. It is rare that schools in high-poverty contexts engage students in rigorous disciplinary activities over a sustained period of time. The East EPO mathematics program utilizes curriculum programs and instructional approaches that demand active student participation in problem solving, collaboration, and communication while adhering to principles of cultural relevance, high expectations, and asset-based perspectives. In this talk, Dr. Choppin and team will explain the frameworks used to characterize and study the mathematics program and present initial results from their analysis of interviews and documents related to the East EPO mathematics program.
