WATCH: YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County - A Journey Towards Racial Equity & Inclusion

Myra Henry During this talk you will hear about YWCA’s commitment to eliminating racism, empowering women and the fight for equity for all, as one of the oldest social justice, human connection agencies in the Greater Rochester community.

As President & CEO of YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County, Dr. Myra Henry brings over 20 years of experience as an administrative change agent with a passion for integrating diversity, equity and inclusion principles within organizational systems. Her appointment to YWCA also is a moment in history as she is the first woman of color to lead the 138 year old organization. Dr. Henry is well known in the community having worked closely with organizational committees and leadership teams in higher education, medical centers and not for profits as well as community agencies to develop and deliver professional development and leadership training.

Most recently, Dr. Henry served as the Deputy Dean at the River Campus Libraries at the University of Rochester. In this role, Myra oversaw the library’s organizational development, finance, human resources and facilities management. She also served as the UR Libraries Diversity and Inclusion sponsor and facilitator as well as co-chairing UR’s D&I committee, facilitated the UR Implicit Bias workshops and served as an executive member of the University’s Diversity & Equity Committee.

Dr. Henry’s personal philosophy of change requires that she “stand in her own truth while walking toward her purpose”. As a lifelong learner she encourages us to make time for critical self-reflection and challenges us to have courage in ourselves. She believes the most important conversation is the one we have with ourselves first.
