Photo of April LuehmannProfessor April Luehmann’s team will present their efforts to capitalize on the COVID pandemic disruption to create a new, more justice-centered normal in science education. This new normal consists of culturally-sustaining and anti-racist teaching that engages all learners in using science and engineering practices to develop explanations of phenomena that are interesting, relevant and meaningful to them. The curriculum for COVID Connects Us was designed to be an initial, culture-setting science unit that builds on relationships with the medical school to help teens keep their circles safe.
