Logan Hazen Receives Award for Outstanding Service to the College Student Personnel Association of New York State

Logan Hazen AwardThe College Student Personnel Association of New York State (CSPA-NYS) presented a Warner School faculty member with the 2020 Dr. Daniel Bratton Award for Outstanding Service to the Association. Logan Hazen, who has served as a professor in the Warner School’s higher education program for 14 years, was formally honored with the award at the CSPA-NYS Virtual Conference in October. Hazen has served as the long-term journal editor for the New York Journal of Student Affairs, the CSPA-NY’s journal.

The Dr. Daniel Bratton Award is presented to an exemplary member of the CSPA-NYS for outstanding service to the Association. Eligibility for the award requires not only the individual to be a member of the Association, but also to have contributed exceptional service to CSPA-NYS. Dr. Daniel Bratton was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee that founded the NYS College Student Personnel Association in 1967. He was presented with “the first ACPA State Divisional Charter” for New York State on April 8, 1968, and served as the Association’s first President.

This is the second award Hazen has received from CSPA-NY for his numerous contributions to the field of higher education. Twelve years ago, he was the recipient of the Association’s 2008 Distinguished Service to Higher Education Award, when he completed the student affairs part of his career and moved into a faculty role at Warner. CSPA-NY, the first chartered state division of the American College Personnel Association, has presented its Distinguished Service Award since 1982.

While officially retired in 2020, Hazen remains involved with the Warner School’s higher education program. During his academic career, he has taught courses in higher education, served as the program director for higher education, established and supervised higher education internships, advised higher education master’s and doctoral students, and recruited adjunct faculty for the higher education program. He also served as the Warner School’s director of student services for six years.

CSPA-NYS is a comprehensive professional student affairs organization dedicated to fostering the development of its members; a diverse community of educators, students, and scholars within higher education. CSPA-NYS provides exceptional professional development programs and networking opportunities for graduate students, new professionals, and mid-level managers in higher education in New York State, and strategically partners with a number of resources to deliver on this promise.
