Get Real! Science Action Saturdays

Web Site
http://www.rochester.edu/warner/getreal

When
Saturdays, October 11 & 18

General Information
The Get Real! Science Action Saturday's offers middle school girls the opportunity to study a water ecology problem in an attempt to answer the question: “What evidence exists that something (or someone) is polluting the Irondequoit Stream?”

Participants will develop a personal investigative approach for determining the health of a local stream and the implications for our community. They will learn:

  • biological indicators like benthic macroinvertebrates (fun, creepy crawly things)
  • chemical indicators such as pH, nitrates and phosphates
  • physical indicators such as temperature and velocity of stream flow.
