Warner Alumna Named Pierce College President

Warner School of Education alumna Julie A. White ‘13W (PhD), who is currently senior vice president of student engagement and learning support at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y., has been named the next president of Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, effective July 15. Her appointment was confirmed by Pierce College Chancellor and CEO Michele L. Johnson on May 13.
 
White, who received her PhD in educational leadership from the Warner School, has also served at a variety of institutions, including community colleges, liberal arts colleges, and research universities, with roles in student services, academic administration, research administration, health education, and women’s services.
 
White succeeds Denise Yochum, the College’s president for 13 years. Pierce College, serving 16,000 students annually, operates two campuses at Fort Steilacoom and Puyallup, along with a teaching center at Joint Base Lewis McChord, and a campus at Graham-Kapowsin High School in collaboration with the Bethel School District. Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, located in Lakewood, Wash., was recently named one of the Top 10 community colleges in the nation by the prestigious Aspen Institute.
