Wednesday Lunch Hour - Cultural Connections: The Mystery of Chinese Names: Stories and Pronunciation

Wednesday, February 15, 2017
Noon - 12:50 pm
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase 215

Do you ever feel stuck when you intend to pronounce an unfamiliar name? As a Chinese student, do you prefer to use your generic English name, because it is easy for others to pronounce? Join us for this cultural connection to demystify the cultural and historical roots of Chinese names with a panel of Chinese graduate students from different areas of China! During this interactive session, we will explore the stories of names and work on the pronunciation through interesting Lantern Festival games. More importantly, we aim to enhance the awareness of global citizenship in cross-cultural settings, beginning with understanding each other by introducing and calling names.

Presented by Xiaoyu Wan, Xueyi Luo, Yan Lam Chan, Yuan Liu and Su-Yi Chou.

A feast of Chinese cuisine will be provided.
