In this 2-day institute, all participants will have the opportunity to work with Peg Smith, nationally known author, higher education mathematics educator, and professional development facilitator from the University of Pittsburgh. Each morning Peg will engage participants in ideas from two of her seminal pieces of work – Principles to Actions (NCTM, 2013) and 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions (Smith and Stein, 2011). Each afternoon, participants will select 1 of 4 break-out sessions that will provide the opportunity to dive deeper into issues and topics related to implementing high quality math instruction based on research presented in Principles to Actions (NCTM, 2013).

Each session is designed for a K-12 audience. Facilitators are from the University of Pittsburg and the Center for Professional Development & Education Reform, University of Rochester, and have extensive classroom experience.

Audience: K-12 teachers of mathematics, special education and AIS support teachers of mathematics, and administrators responsible for mathematics supervision.
Cost: $250 per person for W-FL districts who purchase the CORE $325 for all others
