Wednesday Lunch Hour - A Faculty Fulbright Fellowship: Living, Working and Researching in Chile

Wednesday, April 20, 2016
Noon - 12:50 pm
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase 215

In this presentation, Dr. Curry will provide an overview of her three-month Fulbright Faculty fellowship in 2014. She will describe the Fulbright application/selection process, living in Santiago, working at a local university, and extending her research on multilingual scholars' experiences with academic publishing. In a short time period, she collected data at three different types of universities: public, private and religious (Catholic) by taking field notes, conducting two focus groups (in Spanish and English), and holding 14 individual interviews with faculty and administrators. An important emerging finding is how the fast-changing policy landscape is expanding the arenas in which academic publishing in English is being taken into account in metrics related to university performance, status and accreditation.

Presented by Mary Jane Curry, Associate Professor in Teaching & Curriculum.

A box lunch will be served. Food will be available at 11:45 am. The program will begin promptly at noon.
