Wednesday Lunch Talk - Ending the R Word

Wednesday, March 2, 2016
Noon - 12:50 pm
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase 215

The Warner School of Education and Human Development will be participating in the “R-WORD-Spread the Word to End the Word” Campaign. During the Lunch and Learn session, we will be exploring the importance of this campaign, why the word hurts, and what the University of Rochester is doing to spread awareness about disability. With the help of Martha Mock, PhD, Director of Inclusion at Warner and the Director of the Institute for Innovative Transition, we will learn the history of this campaign, and hear from from Cori Piels, Inclusion Specialist from Monroe Community College, AmeriCorps. Ms. Piels will share the negative impact the R Word has on people with disabilities and her work to support organizations to focus on inclusion. Warner alumnae, Kristin Hocker, Ed.D, from the University’s Office of Organizational Development and Staff Diversity will share what the University of Rochester is working on related to disability and inclusion.

A light lunch will be served, with food available at 11:45 am. The program starts promptly at noon.
