Wednesday Lunch Hour - Ties That Matter: Using Social Network Analysis to Examine the Relationship Between Informal Conncections Between Educational Leaders and Research Use

Using social network theory and methods, along with the conceptual lens of collegiality, we examine the underlying individual relationships between leaders in two school districts (a higher performing district and a lower performing district) as they undergo improvement.  Social network analysis differs from conventional approaches used in educational research because it focuses on the relationships that connect individuals to each other instead of focusing only on individual’s characteristics.  In addition to presenting our findings from this study, we discuss the important role of social network theories and methods in understanding educational issues at all levels of the educational system.

This session is presented by Kara Finnigan, Associate Professor, and Daniela Luengo Aravena, Doctoral Student in Educational Policy.
