Wednesday Lunch Hour - The New East: A Progress Report

Wednesday, September 23, 2015
Noon - 12:50 PM
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase 215

A new academic year and a new era began for East High School--one of Rochester's most historic high schools--this month when the school officially opened doors under a new partnership with the University of Rochester. In 2014, East High School, designated as "persistently failing" by the NYS Department of Education, was given five options: close, phase out, convert to charter, be subsumed by the state university system, or establish an Educational Partnership Organization (EPO). The University of Rochester, as the EPO for East, officially assumed full management responsibilities in July 2015. On September 1, Shaun Nelms '04W (MS) '13W (EdD) assumed the superintendency. With the start of the new year, the entity historically known as "East High School" has officially become and will continue to be known as the "East Upper and Lower Schools". In this presentation, Dr. Nelms will present the story of the new East and a report on progress.

A quiche and salad lunch from Formula One Catering will be served. Food will be available at 11:45 am. The program starts promptly at noon.
