Wednesday Lunch Talk - Examining Youth Participation in Online Affinity Spaces: Snapshots from a Developing Research Agenda

Wednesday, September 16, 2015
Noon - 12:50 pm
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase 215

Just returning to Warner after eight months spent focused on scholarship, Jayne Lammers, Assistant Professor in Teaching & Curriculum, shares findings from her on-going research examining youth participation in online affinity spaces. In particular, she highlights the results of a linguistic analysis of reviewer feedback in the online writing communities of Fanfiction.net and Figment.com, insights from a case study she's conducting (with Warner doctoral candidate Valerie Marsh) of one particular Fanfiction.net writer, and an early peek at what happened when she brought lessons learned from her research to a local high school writing classroom.

Lunch from Stromboli Express will be served. Food will be available at 11:45 am. The program starts promptly at noon.
