Wednesday Lunch Hour — Andrew Cuomo and the Attack on Public Schools

Wednesday, April 8, 2015
Noon - 12:50 pm
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase 215

New York’s governor Andrew Cuomo just signed into law new rules regarding evaluating teachers and schools, and teacher tenure and teacher education. His policies, I will argue, are supported by wealthy hedge fund managers, charter school CEOs, and foundations promoting privatization. I will place Cuomo’s actions within the last ten years of education reform in the US, and propose how we might respond.  The presentation will be based on a chapter in my forthcoming book: The end of public schools: The corporate reform agenda to privatize education.

Presented by David Hursh, Professor in Teaching and Curriculum at the Warner School of Education.

A light lunch will be served. Food will be available at 11:45 pm. Program starts promptly at noon.
