Often the question is raised, why are Black experiences in America frequently framed as racial events when other Americans are believed to have similar experiences? Join Professor Dena Swanson as she provides a perspective for why those differences exist, focusing on sociocultural trends to remedy social injustices, and how assumptions of their effectiveness have impacted African Americans in the United States. She will also explore the impact and contradictions between opportunities afforded and those realized in the "pursuit of happiness," as well as the broader societal effect on adolescents.
