Despite the intense focus on the achievement gap that exists between African American, Latino, and other students of color and their White counterparts, the achievement gap discourse keeps us locked in the deficit paradigm. This talk challenges us to look at the inherent fallacies of the achievement gap discourse and to place students' achievement struggles in a larger context of social failure that impedes their school success.

Registration is not necessary. The event is free and is open to the public. Interpreter provided for individuals who are hearing-impaired. Free parking is available. For additional information, please contact Danielle Ianni or call (585) 276-3502.
