Wednesday Lunch Talk - Teacher and Student Collaborative Lesson Planning within the Common Core State Standards

If you have ventured into a public school within the past year, spoken with public school employees, or listened to the news, you have most likely heard something about the tension caused by the Common Core State Standards. This session will be presented by a NYS high school teacher who attempted to increase student participation while working in a high stakes environment with the additional impact of the CCSS. The intervention consisted of classroom collaboration between the students (10th grade global history) and their teacher to develop student-designed lesson plans that met the demanding curricular requirements and the CCSS. This collaborative lesson planning took place over a twelve-week period during which data were collected and analyzed.

The presentation and following conversation will be facilitated by Diana Satterfield '13W EDD, NYS Global Studies teacher and researcher of the study.
