Wednesday Lunch Talk — A "Call and Response" Scholarly Conversation: Race without Racism: How Higher Education Researchers Minimize Racist Institutional Norms

Wednesday, April 10, 2013
12:15 - 1:15 p.m. (Please note time change)
Genrich-Rusling Room, LeChase Hall

This “Scholarly Conversation” will be facilitated by Warner doctoral students as a precursor to the SADE Scholar of Color Colloquium in the afternoon. The peer-reviewed article to facilitate conversation is "Race without Racism: How Higher Education Researchers Minimize Racist Institutional Norms," by Shaun R. Harper, PhD, Graduate School of Education, Africana Studies, and Gender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

The lunch hour format will be structured using a "Call and Response" design. Students will begin the lunch hour briefly highlighting the key points of the article and then lead small groups in a discussion (The Call). Dr. Harper will then respond to the questions and comments from the groups during the second half of the lunch talk (The Response).

The facilitators for this session are Amalia Dache-Gerbino, Nahoko Kawakyu O’Connor, William Turner, Atiya Smith, and Thomas Noel, Jr.

Light lunch served.  No reservation needed.
