Wednesday Lunch Hour - Supporting English Language Learners Across Teaching, Counseling and Leadership: Project CELLS

Wednesday, September 19, 2012
12-1 p.m.
Dewey Hall 1-305

This lunch hour talk will present the multiple strands of a National Professional Development grant from the US Department of Education's Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA), a collaboration between the Warner School, the Rochester City School District, and four local BOCES. The grant aims to develop capacity among teachers, both teachers of English to speakers of other languages, and content-area, school counselors, and school administrators to support English language learners (ELLs) in multiple ways. It also provides for Warner School faculty professional development to infuse understandings of the issues facing ELLs in our courses preparing teachers, counselors, and leaders. The grant also includes a curriculum development component in which we are creating curriculum particularly for immigrant/refugee students with interrupted formal education (SIFE).

Presenters: Mary Jane Curry, Associate Professor and Director of TESOL education, and Judi Fonzi, Associate Professor and Director of the Warner Center for Professional Development and Education Reform
