Feel Like You Belong

International students at Warner belong to a vibrant community of faculty, staff, graduate students, and alumni who represent an extensive range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds and perspectives. The Warner School is dedicated to fostering a learning community that represents and builds on the rich diversity of human experiences, backgrounds, cultures, histories, ideas, and ways of living.  You will be an important part of our community.

We work hard to help you feel at home at the University of Rochester. Starting with the two-week long international student orientation at Warner, you will be introduced to American academic culture and helped with all aspects of settling into your new life and studies in Rochester.  You will have an academic advisor and an international advisor to offer hands-on support. You will also enjoy small class sizes and be fully immersed in class discussions with professors and students from around the world.  No more big lectures—you will experience engaged, interactive learning.

At Warner, learning takes place in and out of the classroom—in traditional courses, special seminars, and internships. You can customize your program of study to meet your individual needs and career plan. You can take advantage of our expanding online teaching initiatives—even taking some introductory courses during the summer before you come to the U.S. to prepare for graduate school. Additionally, you can take online courses if you have to travel abroad or have other responsibilities during your studies in Rochester.
In addition to your main degree program, you may consider supplementing your program with advanced certificates in Online Teaching, Program Evaluation, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, among others.

International students will also have internship and volunteering opportunities to further enrich your experience.  International students have had internships helping refugee students, English language learners and other community members, in museums, schools, and other community agencies.

Warner offers professional development and career counseling services to all international students. Our career counselor has extensive experiences with career planning and is willing to help international students with every step of career development.
