Transportation

It’s easy to get in and out of Rochester by plane, train, or automobile.

The Greater Rochester International Airport is a comfortable and affordable way to travel.

There is an Amtrak train station in Rochester just 15 minutes away from the University of Rochester River Campus.

Megabus is another economical source of travelling around the northeast United States and Canada.  They offer free Wi-Fi on most buses and leave regularly from downtown Rochester.

Within Rochester, public transportation is somewhat limited, but available for use with careful planning.  While many people who live in the city take advantage of the bus system (Rochester Transit Authority), it only serves certain neighborhoods and routes, so care should be taken when securing your housing to make sure that it is accessible to transportation that will get you to campus efficiently.  There is also a system of University buses and shuttles that are free for University of Rochester ID cardholders.  Beyond connecting all of the University of Rochester campuses, shuttles also connect with local shopping, movie theaters, and cultural spots.

Zipcars are rental cars available to rent by the hour or for a day to get out and about in the Rochester community.  Vehicles are located at the University of Rochester Medical Center, the River Campus, and the Eastman School Campus.
