Deadlines and Application Process

Applicants (including applicants to non-degree programs) are required to assemble and submit a complete application to the Office of Admissions by midnight of the deadline. The Warner School offers four application opportunities per year.  Please note that PhD applications are ONLY accepted in the January 15 application cycle.
 
Only those completed applications received by the deadline will be considered by the Warner Admissions Committee. Applications received after a deadline or that are incomplete will be rolled over to the next appropriate deadline.

*It is strongly advised that applicants wishing to begin study in the fall submit an application by January 15 to ensure sufficient time for processing visa applications. Additionally, all PhD applications are due by January 15. 
  1. An application fee of $60 (USD) is required when you submit your application.
     
  2. Please scan and upload your transcripts to the online application. (Official transcripts of all previous post-secondary education are required if admitted to the program.)
     
  3. Letters of recommendation from members of the academic community and/or workplace professionals who know your qualifications for graduate study are required. Preferably, at least one recommendation should be from a former professor. At least two letters are required for master’s applicants and three for doctoral applicants. Letters of recommendation are managed on the online application.
     
  4. A statement of purpose describing your academic or professional background and your interest in pursuing graduate study at Warner is required. The statement of purpose is generally between one and two pages, single-spaced. You can upload a file or cut and paste into the online application.
     
  5. A current résumé or curriculum vitae should be uploaded to the online application.
     
  6. A writing sample written in English must be uploaded with your application, and may be a term paper from your earlier academic work, or a five- or six-page commentary on an issue in education that you have written for this purpose only. The paper should support an academic argument, reference citations, and use a research style sheet. 
     
  7. Additional admission and certification requirements apply for some programs and must accompany your application. Applicants to the accelerated EdD program are required to complete an additional personal narrative as outlined in the application, which should be uploaded.
     
  8. Applicants may need to submit relevant test scores.

    For many of our programs, we do not require entrance examinations as part of the application to the Warner School. If you have taken the GRE already and wish to submit your score, we will be happy to evaluate it as part of your application. Applicants who are interested in applying for certain University-wide scholarships at the doctoral level are encouraged to submit GRE scores. The GRE code for the University of Rochester is 2928. 

    TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for international applicants who are non-native English speakers. The TOEFL code for the Warner School is 7614.
