Admissions Criteria

The Warner School desires the most highly qualified applicants. We look closely at the entire academic background of our candidates. While TOEFL or IELTS scores are required for international applicants who are non-native English speakers, they are only one of a host of criteria used to determine acceptance into our programs.  GRE scores are not required; however, should you elect to submit, they will be considered.

Listed below are selected admissions policy highlights. For information on specific policies not listed here, contact the admissions office.

Specific criteria for admission include:
  • Applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent by the time they enter the program at Warner.
  • Applicants must have the ability to do graduate work at the University of Rochester, as demonstrated by their past academic performance and their academic writing skills.
  • Applicants must demonstrate sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to perform well in their chosen career in education.
  • Applicants’ career goals, professional interests, academic background, attitudes and philosophy must be consistent with the programs offered by the Warner School and its stated mission.
  • Additional criteria may be established for individual programs.
Deferral
Admitted students may defer up to one year from the original intended enrollment date with a paid admission deposit. Deferring students waive any financial award offered by the Warner School.
