Gail Hirst joined the Warner School in 2017 as director and local coordinator of the Southern Tier leadership Program, an extension of the Warner School’s programs in K-12 school leadership to the Southern Tier. In this role, she has supported and advised teachers on their way to becoming the next generation of school leaders in the Southern Tier and teaches courses that focus on building K-12 leadership skills.

A veteran educator of over 45 years, Hirst has devoted her career to improving education in New York State. During this time, she has worked with over 50 districts to help bring about change at all levels of the educational system. Her primary work revolves around designing and creating educational systems for learners to be successful.

A lifelong teacher, Hirst has taught at the elementary, middle, high school and university level as well as supported learners in these settings as the Director of Instructional Support Services at Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES. She has also devoted much of her time to facilitating online learning classes at the graduate level.

She is a former president of the New York State Staff Development Council and has served as a member of the National Staff Development Council’s Leadership Council. She was named the Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the Western New York Catholic Diocese in 1976.
