Marium Abugasea Heidt, a graduate of the Warner School, is director of the international Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) master’s program as well as the teacher preparation programs in TESOL and foreign language education. She is a former middle and high school German teacher and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels. While at the University of Wyoming, she taught modern languages education methods courses and supervised pre-service teachers in the field. She was also a lecturer of undergraduate and graduate ESOL courses at Ithaca College. At the Warner School, she teaches Theory and Practice in Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages and ESOL, Implementing Innovation in Foreign Languages and ESOL Education, Second Language Acquisition and Bilingualism, and the seminar courses for student teachers.
 
Abugasea Heidt’s research interests explore the connection between identity and second language acquisition. She is particularly interested in finding ways to help language learners become more invested in learning a foreign language and culture. Her research focuses on fostering “imagined communities” as a way to increase students’ investment and interest. In the News
