The End Is Near

As you can see I haven’t posted in a while, and I can attribute my absence to the fact that most of my time has been devoted to writing my thesis paper. With graduation just around the corner, students who plan to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas have mostly been hibernating trying to complete their work.

The thesis paper can be an intimidating item for master’s students. But it can also be very rewarding for many students since they are for the most part choosing topics that interest them. Plus, you know you’re not alone on this journey.

Many master’s students elect to take the Masters Thesis class, which allows them to meet once a week and talk about their papers with their advisors and peers. I myself elected to take this class and found it very useful in keeping me on track and not procrastinating. It allowed me to share rough drafts of my paper with my peers and get their feedback.

While some students opt out of the class and choose to write their thesis and meet with their advisor individually, I have found this class to be very beneficial. It has allowed me to bounce ideas off my classmates, share references with those writing on similar topics, and most of all feel at ease about the whole process.

The class meets every week for the first couple weeks, but then meetings begin taking place individually with your advisor as you near completion of the paper. I am currently in this stage of the process. Since the thesis paper is a mastery level paper, it involves drafts of the paper versus just submitting it for completion.

So as the drafts come back and corrections and improvements are made, I get closer and closer to May 14, 2011.
